Sachets Packaging Machine
The format you pick for a sachet — stick pack, 3-side seal, or 4-side seal — decides how much film you burn per gram of product, and that number outweighs the machine price over the life of the line. Buyers who choose a sachets packaging machine by cycle rate usually overlook that a 4-side seal uses 18–25% more film than a stick for the same dose. Format first, machine second.

Sachets Packaging Machine
| Format | Film per 10 g pack (mm²) | Relative cost | Seal length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stick (17×110 mm) | ~1,870 | 1.0× | Short |
| 3-side (60×80 mm) | ~4,800 | 1.6× | Medium |
| 4-side (70×90 mm) | ~6,300 | 2.1× | Long |
At 20 million packs/year, the gap between stick and 4-side is six figures in film alone. The machine premium for a stick former is trivial next to that.
A Manila producer of soy-and-vinegar dip ran 12 g 3-side sachets at 70/min on PET/PE. Film cost was their second-largest expense after labor. Shelf was wet-market (high RH, hand-handled).
We moved them to a stick pack on the same VFFS base with a new former, keeping PET/PE for the wet resistance. Outcome after one quarter:
| Metric | Before (3-side) | After (stick) |
|---|---|---|
| Film / 10 g pack | 4,800 mm² | 1,870 mm² |
| Film cost / yr | $148k | $58k |
| Speed | 70/min | 84/min |
| Leak (wet market) | 1.9% | 0.7% |
Wet-market reality: In SEA, sachets are squeezed, dropped, and re-handed. Seal integrity beats premium look — pick the format with the shortest, strongest seal (stick) for rough handling.
EU food-contact 10/2011 for inks/laminates; CE machinery. PPWR recyclability pressure favors mono-material where the product allows.
FDA 21 CFR food contact; UL electrical. Single-serve condiments need legible net-weight print.
Halal certification; high-RH wet markets demand sealed integrity over look. Dust/static control at the former.
GCC/SASO conformity, Arabic label, and high-barrier film for summer. Tamper-evident tear notches standard.
Stick for film savings and rough handling; 4-side only if the retail look is worth 2× film. Both seal fine when tooled right.
With changeable formers and jaw sets, yes — but budget 30–45 min per changeover and re-calibration.
Usually wrong seal jaw temp for the film, or poor static control letting film mis-track. Verify the seal window per film.
For oxygen-sensitive powders with >6-month shelf life, yes. Without it, color and aroma fade measurably.
