How a Servo Auger Holds CV

• Servo-driven screw controls rotation to a fraction of a degree, so the cutoff dose is identical every cycle. A clutch-brake drive cannot do this; it inherits ±1–2° of scatter.
• Twin-pitch tooling runs coarse for the bulk and fine for the last 20–30% of the dose, where accuracy is won or lost.
• Weight feedback samples every tenth pack on a checkweigher and trims the servo's next dose — the closed loop that keeps CV flat over an 8-hour run as powder density drifts.
• Level control in the hopper holds constant head pressure, because a flooding or emptying hopper moves the dose more than the servo ever will.

Field Data: An Irish Whey Protein Line

A Munster plant filled 2 kg whey protein tubs at 24 tubs/min on a clutch-brake auger, giveaway 1.8%, CV drifting 1.6–2.2% across a shift as spray-dried lots varied in density (0.58–0.66 g/mL).

Where Buyers Mis-Specify

• Comparing purchase price only. Giveaway over 12 months is typically 5–20× the machine price difference.
• Clutch-brake drive for a premium powder. It cannot hold sub-1% CV; the scatter is mechanical, not tunable.
