Cams are cheaper and proven, but a servo-driven gripper lets you tune opening vacuum and dwell per format without machining a new cam. Selection Mistakes We Keep Seeing

• Buying pre-made pouches for a single high-volume SKU. At >3 million packs/year, roll film almost always wins.
• Ignoring zipper seal initiation temperature. The zipper profile needs a different jaw temp than the body seal; one setting leaks one of them.
• Under-specifying the opening station. Dusty or static film jams pneumatic openers; servo with ion bar is the fix.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a VFFS machine make a stand-up doypack?

Only a bottom-gusseted VFFS variant, and the gusset squareness is rarely as crisp as a pre-made doypack. For premium shelf presence, pre-made wins; for cost at volume, VFFS wins.

Why does my zipper seal leak only in winter?

Cold film is stiffer and needs higher jaw temperature or longer dwell. A machine tuned at 25°C will leak at 12°C unless the profile is corrected.

Is servo worth the premium over cam?

For >4 SKUs or frequent changeovers, yes — the payback is in labor and downtime, not speed.

What barrier do I need for a 12-month shelf life?
