Honey Packing Machine

Honey Packing Machine

Choose the Format First, Then the Filler That Feeds It

"Honey packing machine" means three different lines depending on whether you sell jars, squeeze bottles, or sachets — and the format choice drives 70% of the equipment list, from the capper style to the labeler to the heated dosing spec. Select the format and its retail economics first; the filler is the consequence, not the starting point.

Three Formats, Three Lines

Format Line stations Dosing Retail niche
Glass/PET jar De-lid → fill → metal twist cap → label → case Heated net-weight piston Premium/table
Squeeze bottle (flip-top) Unscramble → fill → snap/flip cap → sleeve label Heated volume piston Family/foodservice
Sachet/stick VFFS with hot-fill head Heated multi-lane piston HoReCa/single-serve

What All Three Share: Heat and Low Shear

  • 40–45°C throughout: tank, piping, nozzle — cooler honey thickens and underfills by volume; hotter damages heat-sensitive enzymes and HMF rises (a legal limit in the EU).
  • Bottom-up fill: nozzle rises with the level so honey never splashes — foam and rim drip are the top two rejects on an unheated line.
  • No high-shear pumps: aggressive pumping whips air in; gravity feed or a gentle lobe pump keeps the product clear.

Field Data: An Ethiopian Exporter

An Addis Ababa honey exporter shipping 350 g and 500 g glass jars to the EU ran fill + hand-capping at 26 jars/min, heated tank but ambient nozzles. Winter mornings (15°C hall) produced 2.4% underweights and 3.1% sticky rims causing label wrinkles; HMF passed at 34 mg/kg but with no margin.

We jacketed the nozzles, switched to bottom-up net-weight filling with a heated rim-wipe, added an automatic metal twist-capper with torque logging, and a wrap labeler. Six-month data:

Metric Before After
Speed 26 jars/min 38 jars/min
Underweight 2.4% 0.3%
Sticky rim / label reject 3.1% 0.4%
HMF 34 mg/kg 29 mg/kg

Creamed honey caveat: If you set creamed/spun honey, do not warm it above ~35°C or you melt the crystal structure and it re-liquefies. Creamed lines need gentle low-speed dosing and a wider nozzle, not more heat.

Where Buyers Mis-Specify

  • Ordering a "honey filler" with no format plan. The jar capper, sleeve labeler, or sachet former is the missing 60% of the line.
  • Ambient nozzles off a heated tank. The last 60 cm undoes the tank — jacket the whole path.
  • Volume dosing for export jars. Net-weight rules in the EU/US make load-cell filling the defensible choice.

Compliance by Region

European Union

Council Directive 2001/110/EC composition and labeling (origin, floral source, HMF max 40 mg/kg), 316L contact, EU food 10/2011, CE machinery, net-weight average rules.

United States

FDA food contact, country-of-origin labeling, USDA grade claims where made; UL electrical.

Southeast Asia

Halal certification valuable across the market; humid, warm climate actually eases viscosity but demands sealed tank hygiene.

Middle East

GCC/SASO conformity, Arabic label; premium jar formats with induction tamper seal move well in Gulf retail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can one line do jars and squeeze bottles?

With change parts (nozzle, capper head, guide rails) yes, but the capper style differs (twist vs snap) — budget both heads up front.

What temperature should the line hold?

40–45°C for liquid honey end to end; below 35°C for creamed to protect the crystal set.

Weight or volume dosing?

Net weight for export jars (legal defense); volume is workable on domestic squeeze bottles where tolerance rules are looser.

Why do my labels wrinkle?

Rim drip from an unheated, top-down fill leaves honey on the label zone. Bottom-up fill plus heated rim-wipe fixes it.
