Automatic Honey Bottling Machine
Honey is a viscous, shear-thinning, crystallizing liquid — and an automatic honey bottling machine has to stay warm, move product without crushing air into foam, and dose by weight because volume lies once viscosity shifts with temperature. A line spec'd like a water filler will crystallize in the hopper, foam at the nozzle, and underfill by volume. The thermal and rheological design is the whole machine.

Automatic Honey Bottling Machine
| Fact | Design consequence |
|---|---|
| Viscosity 2,000–10,000 cP | Heated hopper + jacketed nozzle (>40°C) |
| Shear-thinning + foam | Positive-displacement, low-shear, no splash fill |
| Crystallizes below ~14°C | Decrystallizer + insulated line |
Honey density and viscosity change with temperature, so a volume dose drifts as the hopper warms or cools. A load-cell fill by weight holds the net claim; a bottom-up fill (nozzle rises as the jar fills) avoids splashing and foam that would otherwise push the weight light and the jar messy.
A Waikato producer ran 250 g manuka jars at 45 jars/min from a heated tank but with a volume piston at ambient line temp. Winter (13°C) crystallized the feed and foam pushed underfill to 2.6%; jar rims were sticky with drips.
We added a decrystallizer (held tank at 45°C), jacketed the nozzle, moved to load-cell weight fill with a bottom-up nozzle, and a heated rim-wipe. Outcome:
| Metric | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Underfill | 2.6% | 0.3% |
| Crystallization stops | Weekly | None |
| Rim drip reject | 1.9% | 0.2% |
| Speed | 45/min | 46/min |
Winter stops the line: Below ~14°C honey seeds crystals in the hopper and the line jams. A decrystallizer holding 40–45°C is not optional in cool climates — it is what keeps you running.
EU honey directive (2001/110/EC) on composition and labeling; 316L contact, CIP. Origin and floral source claims must be defensible.
FDA food contact; country-of-origin labeling. UL electrical. No adulteration rules strictly enforced.
Halal where relevant; tropical climate eases crystallization but humidity needs sealed tank. High demand market.
GCC/SASO conformity, Arabic label. Heat-stable heated line; tamper-evident cap common.
Weight — viscosity shifts with temperature and volume drifts. Load-cell fill holds the net claim year-round.
In any climate that drops below ~14°C, yes. Without it the hopper seeds crystals and the line jams.
Top-down splash fill foams and drips. A bottom-up nozzle with a heated rim-wipe stops it.
40–45°C in tank and nozzle — fluid enough to fill, cool enough not to damage heat-sensitive compounds.
